CANDLES BURN WITH A SOFT GLOWING FLAME AS THE EASTERN ORTHODOX ATHONITE MONKS SING BYZANTINE HOLY CHANTS. THE ROOM SEEMS TO HAVE A ECHO AS THE MYSTICAL AROMAS OF INCENSE FILLS THE AIR.
MOUNT ATHOS IS THE OLDEST MONASTIC COMMUNITY IN THE WORLD DATING BACK MORE THAN A THOUSAND YEARS, WHICH THEY HAVE HELD ON FIRMLY WITHOUT CHANGES TO THEIR ANCIENT EASTERN MYSTICISM PRACTICES AND BELIEFS.
THERE PRACTICE IS AIMING TO ACHIEVE COMMUNION WITH GOD THROUGH INTERIOR QUIETUDE. HESYCHASTIC PRAYER HAS RESEMBLANCE TO MYSTICAL PRAYERS OR MEDITATION IN EASTERN RELIGION BUDDHISM AND HINDUISM AND ESPECIALLY YOGA.
IT INVOLVES ACQUIRING STILLNESS, IGNORING THE PHYSICAL SENSES, PRAYER IS REPETITIONS, BODY POSTURE AND BREATHING TECHNIQUES.
CHANTING IS CONSIDERED A IMPORTANT FORM OF COSMIC ENERGY. CONTINUING REPETITION IS an FORM OF MEDITATION. THE PRAYER FUNCTION AS A KIND OF MANTRA. THE JESUS PRAYER IS PRACTICED UNDER SUPERVISION AND SPIRITUAL GUIDANCE ESPECIALLY WHEN PSYCHOSOMATIC TECHNIQUES (RHYTHMICAL BREATH) ARE BEING USED.
*SILENCE *MEDITATION *PRAYER *BREATHING *GOD
HOW WE NEED ANCIENT NOURISHMENT, IT IS ORGANIC FOOD FOR THE SOUL.
Boy oh boy Miss Diane, this post was a curve ball, but I can clearly see your desires by your attraction to cool old solid Monks like the Athos Monks.
I always love to see devotion to God no matter its form or motives, but I tell you truly, while petitioning God over and over for favor is noble and such, it does less for the Kingdom than just you talking to God and including Him in your experiences. God created all thing except for two things; evil and creature experience. The only thing that does not exist yet is what you will do in the next instant, and the next, and the next, forever. And while it is true that 'everything is exactly as it should be including your desire to improve it', the only true way to add to God's creation is to live, and the only thing that can change anything on this little blue marble of a world is to experience it with God. They can chant all day forever and it won't do as much for the world as you can do by just including God in every moment of your life. And while these excellent Monks do include God in their prayers and chants, they are basically just recycling past 'experience' and not making anything anew. I'm not dogging the Monks, but I think God has had enough of this sort of thing and is more interested in fresh experience over the old repeated ones. I'll say one thing for sure is that they sure have a nice house on the hill. WOW!..✞♥✞
I am so sorry I just saw this. I agree with you. Often I thought these monasteries would be great for the youth with drug addiction problems. I think they could help people. But I look up and honor all who love God. So perhaps someday they just might open the doors to lost sheeps.
